I wanted to reward this man for his kindness with gold in the end but he turned out to be an isolated traveler on another server. However, it was an extremely enjoyable and challenging adventure.
I was waiting and trying to make camp in the voidtalon and a person whispered at me and asked if I wanted help in finding it. I accepted and we spent the following hour or so talking while they played around with different characters across tons of servers in order to locate me.
I still remember the day I joined the TBC on the laughing skull. There were three major players who would chat in trade chat. I joined the chat and began to talk about how I was unable to afford flying. One of them gave me enough gold to buy a mount to fly.
Also, a friend and I spent many hours running across the ocean of orgrimmer with ankhs , and battling the fatigue zone to reach GM isle. We made it the closest we could get. We weren't able to get the corpses back , so we filed an GM ticket. The GM simply ported to us, said "Why" and rezzed.
When I was a newbie at the time, some years ago , I stumbled across someone else who was searching in the same location as me. If I recall exactly, Ashenvale. I assisted them on a kill quest we were both playing and we got chatting and they asked about how new I appeared. They inquired about how long I'd been playing for, and I answered that I had only been playing for two months. I was able to learn lots about the game from them in addition to tips and general wow knowledge.
They informed me that they were looking to purchase me things that will last. They asked me if I was fine, I already had a couple of them from a fellow friend who was a player, and I was sure that it was a scam somehow, because random people do not seem so nice, right? No, I don't know what could have been a scam. I just believed it was. It was true that I was a fool. I finally gave up and allowed them to purchase some.
The exchange was not able to be made for their gold for family heirlooms, since we were both on different servers, so they requested me to draw a character on their server and they provided me with enough gold buy 3 pieces (I think). I can still remember standing in the ironforge thinking how surreal the whole process was.
We didn't get to be Bnet friends (partly bc i wasn't sure how to accomplish that) And I don't know their names but it was among the most pleasant things someone did for me when I was learning about the game. If you're playing I'm still thankful to you man!
We saw each other again in vanilla. After our server broke up, and we all chose different servers (language preference) We stayed in touch. He gave me gold in exchange for The Unstoppable Force. I was poor, and he understood it was my "dream".
